Jason is an experienced advocate and trial lawyer. He represents both individuals and businesses in a wide variety of matters, including complex litigation before juries, judges, and arbitrators throughout the United States and the world.
He also serves as outside general counsel for several companies, and he helped ‘write-the-book’ on legal procedure as a co-author of the ICLE Michigan Civil Procedure treatise.
Jason started his legal career at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York City. Moving back to Michigan in 2007, Jason joined Honigman LLP, where he was a Litigation partner and co-chair of the Family Law Department.
Education
Jason received his Juris Doctorate from Columbia University School of Law, where he was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He graduated Andover High School and received a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy from Williams College.

With 50 years of experience as an attorney, counselor and entrepreneur, Jim’s legal and strategic guidance has been sought out by clients worldwide, including individuals, start-ups, private equity companies and businesses seeking to scale and find success.
In addition to an accomplished legal career, Jim is the former President and CEO of Hiller’s Markets, a chain of seven Michigan grocery stores, which was sold to Kroger in 2015.
Jim has also authored numerous articles about sailing and maritime law. He is a skilled navigator and ocean sailor and has been a Fellow of The Royal Institute of Navigation for more than 30 years.

Jim is a distinguished graduate of the University of Detroit Law School, where he was President of his class as well as the recipient of the Outstanding Student Award.
